Job Shadow Summary
On June 4,2015 I had the opportunity to job shadow workers who work at Art’s Custom Cabinets, Inc., here in lindsay. At first I was assigned to interview just one person, but at the end the boss gave me the chance to explore other workers. I chose Art’s Custom Cabinets to job shadow because I am fascinated in the construction field. This interview opened my eyes because I was able to see with my own eyes how work was done for house cabinets, which in my opinion, it did not look easy.
To being with my job shadow I woke up with excitement and chose nice and comfortable clothes that I was going to wear that day. I then ate a healthy breakfast and gathered the supplies that I was going to need for the day. My appointment was at 10am, but I decided to arrive 20 minutes earlier to give the first good impression. Throughout the day I interviewed different workers such as people who are assigned to build the cabinets, others who are given the job the job to paint them, and those who are assigned to install them. At the beginning I felt somewhat nervous, but as the day went by I began to feel more comfortable because I was in a healthy environment.
One of the main things I learned was the process of how to make and install kitchen cabinets. The process is in a form of an assembly line, first of all the people measure the area where the cabinets are going to be installed, then the workers brings back the measurements to the person who is in charge of cutting the wood. After they make the datos put together the piece if wood to get the form of a cabinet, as soon as they finish putting them together they sand it to make it smooth. Lastly they send them to the workers who are in charge of painting them, and they take the cabinets to the house in where they are going to install them. If one of the workers makes a mistake while they are doing the cabinets, they will have to start from the beginning. Honestly it was a great experience job shadowing Art’s Custom Cabinets because it is a good way to start looking into my career. I don’t have any negative comments to say about this field because it looks like a good job that I can have in mind for the future.
When I graduate high school my dream job is to become an architect, which is similar to the work that the workers perform at Art’s Custom Cabinets. I’m interested in working in the construction field because it's something that I have always appreciated. I don’t want to end up with a low paying job. I want to be able able to pay back my parents all the work they done for my family in order to give us a better future.
