The Beginning of My Senior YearFor some learners, August 17,2015 marked their first day of school. For me it marked my last first day of high school. The night before, I had many emotions running through my mind, such as happiness and nerves. The next morning I began to get ready for my first day of school I realized that my high school experience flew by so quick. As I walked through the gates, that's when it hit me, I was finally a senior in high school. I grew up in a small town where there is not much to do, my days go by as a dedicated student. My first two weeks as a Senior have been good so far. I have met new friends. As a senior I am satisfied about what this year has for me. Since it is my last year attending Lindsay high school i am looking forward to school, soccer and clubs. One of the biggest inspiration that has encouraged me to do good in high school has been soccer. I do regret not being able to play during my freshman year, since I didn't have qualifying grades I couldn’t play. I worked hard during these past years and I am happy to say that I have been a varsity soccer player for the past two years. During my first year being in varsity we started off the season really good that we were undefeated until all the hard work came to an end and our hopes of becoming a valley champ completely went down the drain. Till this day I still have hopes on becoming a valley champ. I feel the need to accomplish this goal because it is my last year of being a high school student. Knowing that this obstacle will be something impossible it won't hurt giving all my effort to the game. Although other students in my grade level didn’t have the opportunity to change their schedule it sure shows a senior schedule. Before I selected my classes, I had a chat with my sister about what were some classes that she would recommended me to take this year to challenge myself. She preached to take some AP courses that could help me get into college/university. Before I began selecting I did have a different mind set about choosing classes I didn't like, even though my friends were in it I prefer to put in effort and not slack off. My schedule for my final year of high school are: Accounting 1, Video editing,, Economics, Leadership, English 12, Drama, and AP Spanish. Luckily, I started this year strong which i don't plan to stop doing as the year progresses. "Don't Limit Your Challenges, Challenge Your Limits" So far this semester has given me a lot of challenges, but I’ve been able to overcome all of them. In order for me to succeed in whatever obstacle is thrown at me I will do my best to pass all my classes. For example, for me english hasn't been my strongest subject so I have taken the initiative of staying after school and asked a tutor for help. She has helped me alot with my reading, writing, and with my vocabulary. Thanks to her helped I have been improving in my english. Other things that I have to accomplish is to stay on pace in my classes in order to graduate. For example, I have to keep working hard , pass all my test, and stay after school as well. What I have enjoyed in my senior year so far is trying to make memories with my friends. Soccer is something I’ve enjoyed so far we barely started our season we have a lot of potential for us to go far in this season. One of my favorite classes I have liked is drama because it has changed the person who I am in life. Thankfully I haven’t had trouble with my senior project because I been working on it with my sister who graduated in 2013 and she has helped me through the process of working on my senior project. So far I’ve enjoyed working on it because I get the chance of talking about myself. The steps that I’m taking right now to start preparing myself after senior year is I’ve already taken the initiative to start applying for colleges, scholarships, and fafsa. Thanks to Mr. Gutierrez he has helped me to start with this process. The schools I have applied to so far is Sacramento State, Fresno State, Bakersfield State, and San Jose State. Hopefully at the end of the year I already know what college I’m going to be attending to which I have hope its Sacramento State. I also hope to work on campus to learn the responsibility of working hard and handling school work at the same time. I’m very thankful for my family because they have been supporting me since freshman year. For example: my mom going and meeting with my counselor and learning facilitators and supporting me with anything that I need to succeed in life. They always encourage me to work hard and tell me never to give up. The reason they keep pushing me forward is because they want me to succeed in life. They have taught me the values of life and the values of not finishing school because they want to see me get a college degree which as of right now would be criminal justice because that's what I want. In conclusion to this journal I’m very thankful of my family because without them I won’t be where I’m at today. Thanks to them I’m morally, physically, and mentally strong. Because of them I will keep working hard and I will achieved all the goals that I put myself in life. "The Struggle You're In Today, Is Developing The Strength You Need For Tomorrow" Throughout my life, I have had many struggles. One of the biggest struggles is English. English has been the biggest struggle of my life and it has affected me greatly. The reason why it has been a struggle is because I’m not good with grammar and reading especially when you have to use both at the same time. In order to overcome this problem I’m willing to stay after school any day of the week to get extra help. Getting the extra help will help me a lot to improve because it’s not that I don’t get English but that I need a better explanation. I am hopeful that after school tutoring will also help by teaching me new learning skills that I can use in other classes. My most successful class is Math. I have been doing well in Math the past years because little by little Math has become easier for me since I turn in my assignments and have been trying my best to stay on pace and be able to graduate. So far my hard work is starting to show and it is what motivates me to keep doing my work and trying my best. As of today, Lindsay Unified School District gave out laptops to Lindsay High School students. I was eligible to receive one. This laptop has really helped me a lot because I am now able to do school work at home and get assignments done as well as letting me turn in a lot faster. Thanks to this laptop I am getting a lot closer to catching up and be able to graduate. I am now a lot more motivated then I ever was to turn in late assignments. The ways I plan to improve more in English is by keeping up with the teachers pace and turn in assignments when they are done. Also by staying focus in school which means I’m probably no longer going to sit with my friends anymore, from now on I am going to sit in front of the class and ask as much more questions as needed to understand the topic. This are some techniques I’m willing to do in order to improve in my English. Farewell It’s my last semester of my senior year and everything so far has gone great.I’m getting more interested in my classes and also they don't seem to be as hard as I thought they were my first semester. This semester I have to take my economics class and so far it seems like a really good class I enjoy the people who I am with in that class and all the projects that we will have to do for that class seem really fun and unique. Such as planning a wedding and starting our own business.
I was able to pass seven out of seven classes my first semester and I'm glad that all my hard work is paying off. I’m even more excited that I only have one more semester to complete my high school days. I have been working on many level fours in my classes and also getting the help I need after class to stay on pace. I am very excited to graduate and I know after this I will be on my own and have to make decisions. What I’ve been doing these past months to prepare for this has been applying for scholarships and deciding what school I will be attending fall semester of 2016. Out of all the schools I applied to I had to make a decision which one will benefit me educationally and financially. The university I’ll be attending is Fresno State. I’m going to be rooming with two of my best friends. We still don’t decide which apartments we will be living in. People that I’ve been grateful to have in my life are my family, soccer team, and learning facilitators. It has been an amazing experience to be able to play three years of high school. I’m really looking forward to grad night and graduation. I can’t wait to receive my diploma and to walk with my classmates. Taking a new step to my life is very important to me, because I won't have to depend on other people except for myself. I am very grateful that my school has the pbs system because I feel like it has helped me be a more responsible student for myself and also make important decisions for myself. I am really going to try my very best to pass seven classes this semester and be able to graduate. I am willing to drop anything in order to reach my goal. Graduating means alot to me. I not only want to make my family proud of myself, but I want to be proud of myself that I’ve met one of my goals in life. My parents have supported me every step of the way with everything I have decided to do. At the end of the day they are my motivation in anything I want to accomplish, because I know they want nothing but they best for me. |
